Alex S. Vitale is Associate Professor of Sociology at Brooklyn College, where he teaches courses in Criminology, Sociology of Law, and Social Movements. He has published numerous articles and reports on protest policing and has been a consultant to human rights groups and police departments. He is also on the Executive Council of the Professional Staff Congress (PSC-CUNY), AFT local 2334, which represents over 20,000 faculty and professional staff at the City University of New York. www.alex-vitale.info.
Penny Lewis is Assistant Professor of Labor Studies and specializes in social movements. She earned her Ph.D. in Sociology from the Graduate School of the City University of New York. Dr. Lewis has authored several scholarly papers and is completing the manuscript for her first book, which examines the relationship between social class, labor unions and social movements. She has also served as a union organizer and has been active in labor and community organizations including Jobs with Justice and serves on the Executive Council of the PSC-CUNY.
